Teething and Swinglish

Mmmm...chewing on that finger tastes so good!

We think that Kai has started the teething process...fun, fun, fun! Hopefully, it will be a less painful event for him than it was for Noah. With Noah it involved many nights of sleep deprivation for all of us. Since Kai is a champion sleeper (and has been almost from the start), we are hoping to keep that trend going. Right now, he just is drooling up a storm and enjoys chewing on stuff, especially our fingers. So far, sleep has not been affected - last night he fell asleep around 7:30 and did not wake up to nurse until 6 this morning. Thank you, Kai!

On a completely unrelated topic - swinglish. I was so good about only speaking Swedish with Noah for most of his first year. And in fact, many of his first words were in Swedish. However, his English vocabulary grew much more quickly since he is more exposed to English on a daily basis and what I noticed was that as he started talking more and more, I began to answer him in English! It just sort of happened without me thinking about it. When I talk to Kai now, I only speak with him in Swedish and I am trying so hard to get back into that pattern with Noah, but for some reason, it is so difficult! There are some words that Noah has only ever known in Swedish: apelsin (orange), soppa (soup), ärtor (peas), dammsugare (vaccum cleaner) smörgås (sandwich) - those are the ones I can think of right now - so when he uses those words he speaks in a cute little Swinglish. Today as I was cleaning and listening to him play, he said in some more Swinglish, "helikoptern goes upp and ner". Cute!

Isn't this a handsome bunch?
