A couple of months before Kai was born, we got Noah a doll to prepare a bit for the arrival of his little brother. He had never shown much interest in playing with anything not attached to wheels, and he really did not give the new doll much attention at first. I can't quite remember how or when it happened, but shortly before Kai was born, Noah suddenly began to carry his little doll around and it even started going to bed with him along with Elmo, Panda Bear and Hund (his little dog). After Kai was born, I one day asked Noah when he was holding his doll, "What's your baby's name?" and without any hesitation, Noah answered, "Dewey". We have absolutely no idea where he got that name from, but Dewey is now a permanent and much loved fixture. When I took the boys to New Jersey last month, I was packing as lightly as possible and only brought along Elmo for Noah. The first night when I put him to bed, he looked at Elmo then turned to me and said, "Mamma, I need Dewey." Luckily he accepted the explanation that Dewey had to stay home with Daddy, but from now on, I think we may have to bring Dewey along on our travels as well!
