Ms. Jesus and the Cupcake

Although I'm not generally a very artsy craftsy person, I saw a project in a magazine that I thought even I could handle and here is the (almost) finished product:

Yes, I know there are still some numbers missing at the end, but they should be up by tomorrow. I decided that it would be fun to do the calendar with Noah, so after I hung it up I showed it to Noah and talked to him about how it was counting the days until Christmas when we celebrate Jesus' birthday. I told him that as we count each day off towards the birthday, there will be something inside each pocket. The idea behind this particular advent calendar is that each pocket should contain a little felt ornament to attach to the Christmas tree. So far, I haven't gotten around to making the ornaments, so for now, I've just slipped a little something in (for example, today it was a teeny little lamb, tomorrow will be a 'coupon' for a cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows, and so on). Well, yesterday I was curious to see what Noah had picked up from my little discussion of the purpose of the calendar from the day before, so I lifted him up in front of it and asked him, "Do you remember what this calendar is about?" And he came out with a stream of: "It's a special calendar....count the numbers...Ms. Jesus birthday and cupcakes, chocolate cupcakes...yeah!!" Clearly we need to straighten out some of the details, but I thought it was pretty cute.
