Potty Training

So far, Noah has not showed much interest in potty training. We've had a pretty, bright red potty in the bathroom for quite a while and Noah has definitely put it to good use in his own way: lounger for watching television, helmet, missile to throw down the stairs, etc. The general advice in this area of parenting seems to be to wait for certain signals that indicate potty-training readiness, such as being able to undress himself, getting through nap time with a dry diaper (he doesn't nap, so we can forget that one), letting us know when he needs to go, and so on. Many parents have told me that if you wait for the right time, potty training should be achieved over just a several day period. Over the past few weeks, Noah has definitely started enjoying stripping and pulling off his diapers - could this be the sign we've been waiting for? Just in case, I decided to buy some toddler briefs for him the other day when we were at Target. I quickly found the Thomas the Train variety and excitedly shoved the package into his hands. "What's that?" he asked. I explained that it is what big boys wear under their pants instead of diapers. He looked unimpressed but turned the package around to see all the Thomas pictures. We strolled on over to the next aisle to pick up some diapers for Kai. As I reached down for the box, Noah dropped the Thomas briefs and said, "Mamma, put this back....I want those" and pointed to the diapers. Maybe he's not quite ready yet.....
