Kai Goes to "School"

Today Kai started the same mom's-day-out program that Noah went to last year at a local church. Noah's preschool doesn't start until next week, and he was a bit perturbed that his brother was starting "school" before him. After a bit of a snafu regarding appropriate footwear, we successfully dropped Kai off without any tears being shed on his part (or mine - Noah was probably closest to tears since he still thought the whole thing was quite unfair). There are 3 boys and 3 girls in Kai's group, all ranging in age from about 14 - 20 months and 2 teachers plus 1 teacher who floats between two classrooms. The kids do all kinds of things that are geared towards their age: arts/crafts, playing indoors and outdoors, story time, lunch and nap. Drop off is at 9 am and pick up is at 2 pm. I was so curious to see how Kai's day went - no phone calls, so I assumed things weren't a total disaster. When Noah and I showed up again just before 2:00, Kai seemed fine. However, he apparently had kind of a rough day as did all the boys. Apparently one of the boys was extremely upset about being separated from his mom and every time he started a new round of severe crying, Kai and the other little boy would eventually chime in. The teachers would get them all settled down but then something would set the poor little boy off, and it all started again! They did say that when it was time to eat lunch, Kai perked right up and was totally fine - they were impressed with his ability to shovel food into his mouth! Nap time was another disaster and Kai only fell asleep about 10 minutes before I showed up. I may just pick him up right before nap time (it's the last thing they do anyway) next week and let him do that part in his familiar crib!
