Over our recent trip, it became evident that we needed to try a new system to keep Noah safe when we are out and about. He loves to walk and can do so for miles, but he also likes to suddenly dart off which is just not very safe, especially around traffic. And he can run fast. So the other day, I purchased a wrist restraining system - basically it looks like a leash with one end going around Noah's wrist and the other end around mine. I told Noah we are using it so we don't lose each other. The first time we used it, Noah dragged reluctantly behind me screaming, "no, no, I don't want to be attached". We got some interesting looks. But he quickly figured out that the "attachment" wasn't going anywhere and has very quickly accepted it. In fact, it has allowed him some new freedoms which he loves, such as walking around next to me in the grocery store rather than having to sit in the cart. (I quickly learned that I will need to be more vigilant at the market now - at one point, I glanced down at Noah and saw that he was munching away on a half-eaten nectarine!) So for now, the "leash" is here to stay --- we may consider removing it for his 18th birthday.
